NATURE

Nature’s generosity brings together a diverse and spectacular range of landscapes within a small perimeter: gentle hills and towering mountain peaks where clouds rest their gray temples, calm and steady streams alongside swift, untamed mountain rivers—all offering thrilling challenges for passionate hikers.

Located 40 km west of Piatra Neamț, Ceahlău is the most important massif in the Eastern Carpathians. It forms a well-defined geographical entity, and despite its moderate heights (Ocolașul Mare Peak – 1,907 m), it can be seen from great distances on clear days. Its shape, resembling a giant castle eroded by wind, rain, and water, irresistibly invites exploration. The massif is composed of pyramidal peaks and towers (Detunatele, The Hermit’s Tower), gorges, and waterfalls (Duruitoarea, Statuile, Bistra Mare).

Located 35 km from Piatra Neamț, this reservoir on the Bistrița River was created by a dam over 120 meters high—an artificial mountain in itself. Spanning approximately 35 km, this “sea beneath Ceahlău” is a popular recreational area where visitors can take boat rides or rent motorboats.

One of the largest and most representative reserves of its kind in Europe, covering 11,500 hectares and home to over 28 bison. The reserve also features several ponds specially designed for fishing, with species such as carp, crucian carp, zander, pike, and perch.

Located 30 km from Piatra Neamț, 1 km north of Văratec Monastery, this forest reserve is composed of centuries-old oak trees. Along with the nearby Pădurea de Argint (The Silver Forest)—a birch forest—this area inspired Romania’s national poet, Mihai Eminescu, who wrote:
“As you pass through the copper forests,
From afar you see them gleam,
And you hear the noble whisper
Of the silver forest’s dream.”

Located 60 km northwest of Piatra Neamț, this climatic and recreational resort is nestled at the foot of the Ceahlău Massif.
